Brief History

The University Library System traces its history along with the creation of Bicol University. In June 29, 1969, by virtue of Republic Act 5521, Bicol University was established as the state university of the Bicol Region. The Act provided for the conversion of different schools to form the integral units of the University namely: Bicol Teachers College (BTC) with its laboratory school (now BUCE with its Laboratory School), Daraga East Central School (initially renamed BU Pilot Elementary School and is now fused with BUCE Laboratory School), Albay High School (now BUCE Laboratory School), Bicol Regional School of the Arts and Trades (now the College of Industrial Technology and the College of Engineering), Roxas Memorial Agricultural School (now known as the College of Agriculture and Forestry in Guinobatan), School of Fisheries (now BU Tabaco Campus), and the School for Philippine Craftsmen (now BU Polangui Campus). The collection of books and other information resources of these units formed the core collection of the University Library which was then housed at the College of Education Library. In 1984, the collection was transferred to its present location at the second floor of the Multi-Purpose building, and was formally opened to the students in 1986.
